Donald Trump Uncertain About Debating Harris, Questions Its Value

Former President Donald Trump is indecisive if he wants to debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, despite earlier indicating his eagerness to do the exact same. During an interview with Fox News, Trump gave mixed signals about his commitment to the debate.

Initial Enthusiasm to Debate Biden

Another confusing thing was that Trump was eager to debate President Joe Biden, and wanted to question his mental fitness for the presidency. But when Biden stepped back, and Harris became the Democratic presidential candidate, Donald Trump began to question the debate’s terms. He also suggested that the debate, originally scheduled to be held on ABC News be moved to some other network, calling ABC “fake news.”

Pressed for a Clear Answer

Last week, when Trump was asked by reporters if he would commit to debating Kamala Harris, he responded affirmatively, indicating an obligation to debate. However, in a recent interview, Trump said, “I want to do a debate. But I also can say this. Everybody knows who I am. And now people know who she is.”

The ultimate answer was, “The answer is yes, I’ll probably end up debating,” but he added that he could also justify not participating.

This is not the first time Trump has done this. He has a history of skipping debates, including all the 2024 Republican presidential primary debates. Initially, Trump declined to participate, saying that the timing was too early, and questioned the venue before deciding against participating in any of those debates.

Controversial Comments on Voting

Trump also made some controversial comments, where he told Christians they ‘won’t have to vote anymore” after he is elected. He urged them to vote “just this time” assuring them that in four years, “it’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.”

The comments raised some concerns among Democrats and others.

The journalist Ingraham pressed Donald Trump to explain his comments to which he said. “They don’t vote and I’m explaining that to ’em. ‘You never vote.’ This time, vote. I’ll straighten out the country. You won’t have to vote anymore. I won’t need your vote.”

The former president has some similar comments at other conservative events in the past. “In four years, you don’t have to vote, OK? In four years, don’t vote. I don’t care,” he said at a previous event.

His mixed comments on debating Harris and controversial comments on voting may influence voter perceptions and participation in the upcoming election.

Opinion:

The doubts arising in the mind of Donald Trump are nothing but questioning whether it’s worth his time or not. Trump might feel that a debate against Harris will not change how people see him or his chances of winning in Presidential Elections in US 2024.

We all know debates are tricky. Right? They give candidates a chance to put forward their points. However, sometimes they can just turn into arguments that do not help voters make up their minds. Donald Trump might also think that a debate with Kamala Harris would not be that effective or benefit her more than him. Further, Trump has a long history of making bold statements and prefers using rallies and media appearances to send out his message. Thus, his hesitation about going against Harris might in fact be a smart move to focus mainly on his campaign strategy rather than a fear of debating itself.
