The older suspects showed signs of disturbing behavior before their arrests. The 19-year-old suspect had recently quit his job, telling his employer he had “something big” planned. As for the 17-year-old, they were arrested in Vienna and had broken up with his girlfriend.
Karl Nehammer, the Australian Chancellor, said he is really disappointed with the Vienna Eras tour cancelation. But he emphasized that a tragedy had been averted. “We live in a time in which violent means are being used to attack our Western way of life,” he said. “Islamist terrorism threatens security and freedom in many Western countries. This is precisely why we will not give up our values such as freedom and democracy, but will defend them even more vehemently.”

The Growing Threat to Concerts
This is not the first time that a music concert has been targeted by terrorists. With each year passing, concert venues are becoming increasingly vulnerable to such attacks. Back in November 2015, ISIS gunmen attacked the Bataclan Theater in Paris, killing 130 people. Similarly, a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, in 2017 resulted in 22 deaths.
Taylor Swift has recognized the dangers associated with performing at large venues. In an essay for Elle Magazine in 2019, she wrote about her fears following the Manchester bombing and the Las Vegas concert shooting in 2017. That is the reason why her concerts have high-security measures, but the recent events in Vienna are a stark reminder of the ongoing risks.
